Focus on Conservative Early Voting will change the face of N.C. Elections for Decades to Come
American Majority Action Knocks 250,000 Doors, Makes 2 Million Voter Contacts To Promote Early Voting In NC
November 3, 2024 – When American Majority Action began operations in North Carolina in May of 2023, the goals were simple:
Goals:
- Educate conservative leaning voters on the ease, security and importance of early voting
- Train conservative leaders in developing early voting get out the vote plans.
- Reverse concerning trends among conservatives and early voting.
- Mobilize record numbers of conservative voters to cast early ballots.
Added later:
- Assist flood impacted Western NC residents to vote.
The metrics:
- 150 person highly trained field team consisting of experienced NC field canvassers.
- 250,000 doors knocked from July-November 2024
- 2 million combine phone and text interactions with voters.
The results:
- Republican voters lead Democrats in cast ballots at the close of early voting for the first time in NC History
- Democrats have finished the 2024 early vote period in third place, behind an overperforming Republican and Unaffiliated voting base.
- Democrats finish behind their 2020 pace 270k votes. Republicans are ahead of their raw 2020 turnout by about 30k votes.
- GOP finishes a net +300,000 voters in the bank at the close of early voting.
American Majority Action-NC developed specific plans to help voters in Western NC cast early ballots via mail or cast in-person early ballots:
- North Carolina counties affected by Hurricane Helene saw among the highest early voting totals in North Carolina, according to state elections officials.
- All of the counties affected by the deadliest storm in state history had at least a 50% turnout, with many exceeding 60% turnout. According to voter registration data, nearly all of those western N.C. counties lean Republican or are heavily Republican.
“We focused our North Carolina efforts on changing the voting behavior of low propensity conservative voters,” said Dallas Woodhouse, North Carolina Executive Director of American Majority Action. “After 2020 and 2022, it was clear we had to educate, motivate and activate more conservatives to vote absentee, whether through the mail or in person.”
The battle plan focused on highly targeted voters in key areas across the state, achieving thousands of face-to-face conversations. Those highly personal face-to-face conversations are the highest form of voter engagement, and are shown to greatly increase election turnout. AMA’s activist groundswell is powered by Voter Gravity’s groundbreaking technology that allows staff to quickly and accurately get out the vote through micro-targeting voters.
“At this moment, we do not know who will win certain NC political contests,” added Woodhouse. “However, we are proud of helping change the face of North Carolina elections. With nearly 60% of the state having already voted, North Carolina will likely break the 2020 turnout record of 75% in 2020. Bottom line, helping more people vote early, helps more people vote PERIOD. We know once people vote early, they are likely to continue to do so. In future years more and more people will take part in our democracy and that is something to be proud of.”
